Bank Foundations

In Italy, Bank foundations play an important role in the economic textile, in the cultural and social context as well as in cooperation projects. They operate according to common and shared values to achieve collective goals.
In particolar, Torino is home to 2 important bank foundations.

The Compagnia di San Paolo was founded in Torino in 1563 as a charitable brotherhood and is one of Europe’s most important private foundations. The Foundation participates in society’s activities by pursuing ends that are of public interest and social utility, with the aim of favoring civil, cultural, and economic development in the community in which it is active. Development is thus the goal, but also the criterion according to which the initiatives supported by the Compagnia are evaluated.

The areas in which the Compagnia acts are those of scientific, economic, and juridical research; education; art; preservation and optimization of the cultural heritage; cultural activities and performing arts; public health; and assistance to socially deprived categories. These areas of intervention go side by side with interdisciplinary activities, which are more and more needed in order to respond to the complexity of modern life.

Fondazione CRT is a private non-profit organization established in 1991 by the Cassa di Risparmio di Torino. The foundation has a strong, but localized, calling and acts in key sectors of development in Piemonte and Valle d’Aosta regions. Projects range from conservation and valorization of artistic heritage and cultural activities to scientific research; from education and training to health and assistance to aiding the socially needy; from public safety to environmental protection to innovation in local organizations.

Fondazione CRT intervenes in the territory in primarily two ways: financing both projects that are run by the foundation and external projects that fall within the scope of its interests.
